Why is it important?

I lived in the mine hostel and went underground with mining teams for a full production shift. This great experience in that it allowed me to see the world of mining from the perspectives of frontline miners rather than merely relying only on the views of management and trade union officials in the boardroom.

Perspectives

Observing and participating in the daily work activities of miners enabled me to understand the underlying factors that affected organisational safety and productivity.
