Binge drinking new approach

What is it about?

Three distinct types of binge drinking were identified in this study. We termed these initiation, indulgence and moderation. This paper details how each type of binge drinking can be distinguished through different attitudes and drinking behaviours.

Why is it important?

To date the literature has viewed binge drinking as a single phenomenon. Our study is the first put forward the notion that binge drinking should not be defined as one thing, ie consuming 5 or more alcohol drinks in one day. The framework offered in this paper will assist future researchers to consider different types of binge drinking. The results of this research suggest that rather than thinking of binge drinking as one thing, binge drinking should be thought of as different types.
