Why is it important?

Our findings show the categories of tenants that are difficult to manage in private rental housing. We used one of the largest cities in Africa for the study. We also identified the criteria that independent property managers use to consider any person that is looking for house to rent. This article is useful on to gain a vivid insight into current happenings, events and issues on Lease and Tenancy in Private Rental Housing especially in the largets property market in Sub-sahara Africa. How are the difficult tenants are delt with in the market? This is another striking finding in this joint work that involved experienced professional property managers in Nigeria.

Perspectives

This article is very important in the emerging rental market where there are different type of tenants. It is an article that is based on attitude and behaviour of tenants. In industry it is useful because the type of a tenant will have impact on the property itself. Knowing also that rental housing market in Sub-sahara Africa is more in the hands of private actors. The subject of lease and tenancy becomes important here. To make this article more practical, one of the authors of this article has more than 35 years of practical experience in property management. He has been involved in tenant selection and management of tenants in private rental housing, owned by individual and corporate organisations. It is a current sitauon in Nigerian rental housing marke, writing in simple and descriptive manner.
