What is it about?

This paper suggests that the readers of an academic article do not understand the precise reasons for the inclusion of the of the various citations to the published literature that are included in the article.

Why is it important?

This paper undermines the central tenent of citation context analysis, viz that readers understand why authors include the citatiuons that they do to the published literature.
