High pressure phase transitions in TiOCl

What is it about?

TiOCl undergoes two pressure-induced structural phase transitions at about 15 GPa and at about 22 GPa towards superstructures.

Why is it important?

A fraction of the sample persists in the ambient orthorhombic phase over the whole pressure range.
