What is it about?

Thermography is a non invasive, natural method for measuring ocular surface temperature by recording an infra red video of the eye under free blinking state. Using the laws of thermodynamics and a few assumptions, the temperature change at different parts of the eye can be converted to tear evaporation rates.

Why is it important?

Traditionally, tear evaporation is measured with goggles. This is a very artificial condition and may not be comparable to actual living conditions. Our method may be useful in clinical trials, where reducing tear evaporation may be one of the endpoints of treatment.

Perspectives

This method has shown to be reproducible and suitable for longitudinal evaluation.
