What is it about?

Over-produced cytokines such as TNF-a, play a key role in induction of ER stress in macrophages. Accumulated TNF-a might not be folded properly, or not be folded completely in macrophages.

Why is it important?

Our results suggest that overexpression of proinflammatory cytokine TNF-a induces ER stress response during mycobacterial infection. It is the first evidence of the way to induce ER stress by overproduced TNF-a.

Perspectives

Some specific overproduced proteins might be associated with unknown pathogenesis of some infectious diseases. Our theory migh be applied to prove how immune cells induce ER stress against bacterial infection.
