What is it about?
The objective of this space experiment is to study the effects of microgravity on the osteogenic differentiation potentials and molecule mechanisms as well as the key cell signaling molecules specific for osteogenic differentiation. These studies may provide certain scientific basis for overcoming the bone loss during space exploration and developing the targeted drugs. This project is the first research on the molecule mechanisms specific for osteogenic differentiation of mesenchymal stem cells.

Why is it important?
Simulated microgravity remains a controversial substitute for real microgravity. In this study, we examined the effects of real space microgravity on the differentiation potential of hMSCs and analyzed the molecular mechanisms underlying these effects in the space microgravity environment of the SJ-10 Recoverable Scientific Satellite.
