What is it about?

TSHb is an hormone usually secreted in the pituitary. Here we show for the first time that it is encoded by adipose tissue, in a close relationship with cholesterol storage capacities. We confirm that in different individuals suffering from obesity.

Why is it important?

Our findings can help to understand global cholesterol metabolism, by adding a novel layer of regulation in human body. Thus, TSHb, in adittion to regulate thyroid gland function, shows a novel role, probably working as a local regulator of lipid metabolism in adipose tissue.

Perspectives

We think that the development of this concept could help individuals with obesity in developing approaches towards the treatment of its metabolic complications.
