What is it about?
Defects in the ability of pancreatic beta cells to release insulin after a meal is a characteristic feature of many Type-II diabetes patients. Activation of beta cell mitochondrial metabolism play a key role in this physiological event, and thus we were looking for pathways or targets able to boost mitochondrial metabolism

Why is it important?
In this manuscript we demonstrate that Protein Kinase C activation not only promote exocytosis (Insulin secretion) in pancreatic beta cells, as previously described in the literature, but also is able to boost mitochondrial metabolism.
