What is it about?

The Retinoic Acid pathway promotes regeneration of axons following injury. We describe that part of that process involves recruiting the energy-providing mitochondria to the growing tip of the axon terminal, providing it with the energy it requires to elongate the axon.

Why is it important?

Our findings clarify the therapeutic effect of modulating the retinoic acid pathway, identifying new targets for clinical approaches.


This article results from interesting work, because we described elsewhere the therapeutic effect of activating this retinoic acid receptor, but remained puzzled to how was this accomplished in terms of energetic need. In this work we actually were able to systematically study the signalling pathways behind it, unraveling a plausibly common pathway for energy distribution in different cells under various physiological and pathological situations.
