What is it about?
Students in higher education use a range of different technological resources for additional help with mathematics. Some of these are recommended by lecturers; others they find for themselves. This study looked at what resources first-year students use; whether there was a difference between what lecturers and students recommended; and what type of resources they would like to see developed.

Why is it important?
Many lecturers spend a lot of time sourcing and recommending technological resources for their students - but it is not always clear that students use these. On the other hand, students may find some resources very useful but their lecturers are unaware of these - or feel they are unreliable or encourage surface learning. This study highlighted the differences between the two groups and also identified resources that they would like to see developed.
