What is it about?

We designed a user friendly interface to create a customized incubating oral airway. These devices are key tools for Anesthesiologists for intubation of patients with difficult airway. As a pediatric anesthesiologist, I think that this method of creating custom devices for patient care can be very useful to individualize Care for all of our patients.

Why is it important?

There are many gaps in medical device manufacturing within medicine, particularly in pediatrics. In some cases, 3D printing may be an appropriate avenue to make individualized devices on demand.

Perspectives

I look forward to a day when I can offer the same level of care to all of my patients, regardless of their size and conditions. Small children, and those with airway anatomy variations pose challenges for airway management, yet the devices currently available may not be ideal for these high risk populations.
