What is it about?
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) is one of the most used plastics with a variety of industrial applications that include medical devices. Inclusion of plasticizers to soften the PVC (rigid if un-plasticized) widely increase its application area. This chapter reviews the recent trends in plasticizers, PVC formulations with a range of plasticizers and their applications in medical devices from a wide perspective to cover properties, processing, toxicology and functional performance.

Why is it important?
Even though there are quite many articles studying PVC formulations with various plasticizers other than DEHP, finding a review chapter that evaluates the recent trends and connecting with specific product applications in a nutshell are still hard to find. This chapter is valuable for the readers who search for a good summary supported by data.
