Why is it important?

A number of consumer and technical textile cellulosic products having an antimicrobial finish are available in the market and their increased demand in the future is expected. The global market for consumer antimicrobial and bacterial wipes was indicated by US $8.5 and US $1.7 billion, respectively, for 2012. Similarly, the global baby diaper market will reach $52.2 billion by 2017.

Perspectives

Cellulosic fibers provide important contributions to antimicrobial textiles including protection, biodegradability, nontoxicity, comfort, and esthetics.
