What is it about?
A narrative review on potential roles of vitamina C on bone health
Featured Image
Why is it important?
Since uncertainties, limitations, and open questions on the role of vitamin C in human skeletal health still remain, indications or recommendations on vitamin C supplementation to improve bone health, or prevent osteoporosis, are not currently appropriate.
Perspectives
The future studies have to clarify the effect of vitamin C on several different bone parameters and a deepest comprehension of protective mechanisms in abnormal redox and acid–base state is necessary. Further clinical studies on vitamin C effects on bone health should be needed, both on bone-quantity/quality and reduction of fracture risk, to obtain significant clinical data with reliable statistical analysis.
