What is it about?

In 2018, the territory of Syria became a bridgehead for Iranian attacks against Israel. Israel responds with air strikes. Development of the situation will depend on a complex set of factors, one of which is Russian policy. Russian President Vladimir Putin is guided by two opposing ambitions: demonstrating superiority over the Americans, and displaying his peacemaking abilities. However, in the long or even medium term, Moscow will have to decide whether to support Iran against Israel or not. In this article we try to understand the essence of Russian–Israeli and Russian–Iranian relations from Mr. Putin’s standpoint.

Why is it important?

Mr.Putin`s attitude towards the conflict between Iran and Israel is unclear because Russia does not want to make choice. However it is possible to examine main motives of the Russian president which can influence his position. This is the task of the article.
