What is it about?
Spatial spillover effects are generally overlooked in productiivty and efficiency models despite the literature suggesting the spillover effects of productivity. This paper incorporates the spatial spillover effects of productivity and efficiency by incorporting the geographic distances between provinces and its impact of productivity.

Why is it important?
As China’s growth slows down and levels out, sustainable development through productivity and efficiency growth becomes increasingly important for China’s future, as maintaining a high level of investment and savings rate is unsustainable. Understanding the spatial spillover effects of productivity and efficiency can provide a deeper understanding of regional growth paths and provide information for policymakers for future policies.
Perspectives
This paper is part of my PhD thesis. Spatial productivity and efficiency spillovers. I enjoyed writing this paper as I had the chance to present it at the Chinese Economic Association (CEA) in Edinburgh in 2018. Furthermore, I am grateful to my supervisor Karligash for helping me understanding the methodology of the paper.
