What is it about?
In this paper, we review how the use of Big Data and other digital tools can make electricity grids that use renewable energy work more efficiently and reliably. We analyse different technologies, such as the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, and blockchain, which help manage large amounts of information in real time to improve the distribution and use of solar, wind, and other clean energy sources. Our goal was to show what solutions exist, how effective they are, and how they can be applied to accelerate the transition to a more sustainable and intelligent energy system.

Why is it important?
This research shows how advanced digital tools can boost renewable energy use in smart grids a key step in the global energy transition. By evaluating Big Data, AI, IoT, and blockchain together, it identifies the most effective solutions and the contexts in which they work best, offering a strategic guide to accelerate the shift towards cleaner, smarter, and more resilient electricity systems.
Perspectives
Writing this article was an exciting journey that connected cutting-edge digital technologies with the urgent need for cleaner, more reliable energy. Working with colleagues who share a passion for sustainable innovation was both challenging and inspiring. The most rewarding part was seeing how tools like Big Data, IoT, and AI can move from buzzwords to real solutions that improve renewable energy networks. I hope this work encourages others to see that the digital transformation of our energy systems is not only possible it’s already underway and should be accelerated.
