What is it about?

Contemporary Commercial Music is virtually all (vocal) music outside the classical realm (opera, oratorio and art song). This book examines the historical context as well as pioneers in its pedagogy in a continuum right up to the present day.

Why is it important?

After many years of being called "non-classical music" Contemporary Commercial Music defines in an inclusive term what the music IS rather than what it IS NOT. CCM has finally become a legitimate field of study and this book brings together pedagogues and researchers from around the world who are on the cutting edge of this exciting new wave in the teaching of singing.

Perspectives

Reviewing this important book underscored both the parallel and divergent paths that teachers are using to enable their students to sing many different genres of music in authentic and vocally healthy ways. It was a thrill for me to see in print what friends and colleagues have been saying for years about this new direction in vocal pedagogy. I hope that this book becomes a beacon for all teachers curious about the many facets of Contemporary Commercial Music.
