What is it about?

DC power is easy to measure. The losses of SiC transistors are measured by the temperature drop in a thermal link. The difference is the loss in a magnetic component as a load in the set-up.

Why is it important?

The losses in today inductors are low. Classic watt-meter set-ups are sensitive to the exact phase, and edges in the waveform. I give an example, at 100 kHz, the period is 10µs, one radian is 1.58µs, at 1% loss, the phase difference is 15.8 ns. To get 5% accuracy, a precision of less than 0.8ns would be needed.

Perspectives

Before that, already other calorimetric papers were published by the authors, so it is following the evolution in possibilities.
