What is it about?

The birth dose of hepatitis B in India is given within 24 hours and those children who have crossed 24 hours are not vaccinated. Because of this reason, the coverage of birth dose hepatitis B in India is very low.

Why is it important?

According to SAGE recommendations, the birth dose can be given up to 7 days after birth. So it is high time to reconsider the schedule of hepatitis B birth dose in India.

Perspectives

This work is of public health importance and asks for a change in the scheduling of hepatitis b birth dose vaccination in the country with immediate effect.
