What is it about?
Providing spiritual care is more than a matter of having the right skills and knowledge. It also requires a verifiable experience of one's own spirituality and the ability to discern another's spirituality.

Why is it important?
With the proliferation of agencies that now certify chaplains and spiritual care practitioners, a standard is needed to adjudicate a person's qualifications. Improperly trained practitioners may inadvertently cause spiritual harm. This article aims to support a standard based on epistemology.
