What is it about?

Developing a particular approach to actor training that draws from personal observation, cultural experience and social context, to create a character and understand motivation in performance. This method uses a devised performance framework to engage students in embodiment and empathy.

Why is it important?

Learning to act by drawing from one's cultural knowledge and social understanding to develop a character, empowers students to think about how difference can be negotiated through imagination, observation and research. This allows students to recognise the power of performance as agency in reconfiguring cultural boundaries and personal connections.
