Why is it important?
The current antibiotics are losing efficacy due to multi-drug resistance that microorganisms are developing. Therefore, it is necessary to discover new antimicrobial drugs. Bottle gourd pedicles have been found to have remarkable anti-microbial activity against a number of bacteria.
Perspectives
Discovery of new safer, more effective and cost-effective antimicrobial drugs is important. Lagenaria is a fruit-vegetable and is commonly cultivated on large scale in many parts of the world including Pakistan. Its pedicles were studies for the first time for antimicrobial activities.
