Why is it important?
Self-identity work in transition from military to civilian life require time as the reformulation of the story of who I am take time to reconstruct for an individual. This process is seldom described from a spiritual perspective although such a perspective may unfold layers of importance within that process.
Perspectives
This article was built upon a longitudinal case study of Sergeant Erik who experienced meaning, purpose, community, and camaraderie in military service. During transition to civilian life he lost these and such components proved difficult to find and integrate in his reformulated identity which in turn implied the development of a hybrid identity.
