What is it about?

In this literature review I examine the types of communication that have been used and studied in preparation for a wildland fire event. Typically this communication takes place within communities most affected by wildland fire, called the wildland urban interface, or WUI. The types of communication I review occur a) between and among WUI citizens, b) between and among the agencies that manage public land around the WUI, and c) between citizens and agencies. The most studied forms of communication are between WUI citizens and agencies, followed by communication between and among citizens, and then communication between and among agencies.

Why is it important?

Enhanced communication before a wildland fire event can increase preparation and therefore the safety of citizens and agencies living and working in and around WUI communities.
