What is it about?

This article is about how institutional racism works even within commitments to equality, diversity and inclusion. It looks at unconscious bias and unconscious bias training as areas of the institution's work and outlook which keep racism in operation

Why is it important?

It is important because of the increasing focus on unconscious bias and unconscious bias training as the way forward in combatting institutional racism. The article argues that this focus is flawed as bias is not unconscious but linked to broader social structures of racism and racist institutional cultures.

Perspectives

This is a necessary intervention as a critique of unconscious bias and unconscious bias training.
