What is it about?

We present the first geological map of the Hokusai quadrangle of Mercury. We made this map using data from NASA's MESSENGER mission (2008–2015).

Why is it important?

This is the first geological map of this region of Mercury. It will provide science context and targets for the joint ESA-JAXA BepiColombo mission, which launched in October 2018 and will begin returning science data in 2026.
