Why is it important?

Breast cancer incidence has been increasing consistently in Vietnam. As yet, however, there has been very little research conducted on the ability of the health system to respond to this challenge. This paper maps research already produced in this area, describing how the health system currently functions, what services are available, what guidelines are in place, what challenges have been identified, and where future research should focus.

Perspectives

This paper is the first hard 'output' from a research collaboration between Queen's University Belfast, the Hanoi University of Public Health, and the Hanoi Medical University. We hope to build on this research to provide a holistic understanding of how breast cancer services function in Vietnam, identifying challenges and making recommendations on future service provision. I hope this article provides an important and useful contextual overview to frame future research in this area.
