What is it about?

Long-term cortisol variations do not seem to play a role in the well-known association between neuro cognitive impairment and bipolar one disorder, since we did not find cortisol variations using a new validated specimen for measuring long-term cortisol levels in patients without symptoms which might be also explain the presence of neuro cognitive impairment in these patients.

Why is it important?

Because other factors, such as the use of psychotropics, among others may be investigated in order to explain the cause of this association.

Perspectives

I truly believe that only new validated specimen for measuring long-term cortisol values, such as hair and fingernail may provide the answer for a large number of doubts that we currently have about the role that cortisol variations may play in Affective Disorders.
