What is it about?

The paper proposes that propagating a values-based adaption of the transformational leadership style would help promote better long term vision, and strengthen ethics, among local leaders in the South Pacific. This style of leadership would enhance those already leading the region to help deliver better outcomes for their people.

Why is it important?

The South Pacific has been plagued by under-performing leadership at a political, economic and institutional level for decades. This is due to issues of corruption, and management which lacks long term vision and direction. The values-based transformational leadership style helps to resolve these issues, by taking charismatic leaders, and fostering their ability to think strategically, while also promoting better ethics and values to avoid issues of corruption. Improving leadership in the South Pacific will help promote better outcomes for the region as a whole.

Perspectives

My hope is that thought-leaders in the South Pacific consider and debate the validity of this discussion. Leadership styles like this can be used to enhance the potential and effectiveness of local leaders, and my hope is that the paper will be used to achieve this purpose.
