What is it about?

This case study reports one Texas suburban school district’s efforts to promote cultural proficiency after leadership trainings and explores how and in what ways this may or may not have improved school leaders’ understanding of Islam and their Muslim students and families.

At a time when Islamophobia plays a frightening role in global politics, educators must understand their ethical responsibility to support American Muslim students.

Perspectives

This article points out the beliefs and actions of educators that at times are empowering and at other times detrimental to American Muslim students. More important is the interventions needed to mitigate destructive attitudes and behaviors, which diminishes the educational experiences of these students.
