What is it about?
Content analysis of the grade 8 anthologies revealed not only the names of the Latinx authors included in these resources, but also authorship trends such as the percentage of Latinx authors, number of times selections were included in the anthologies, and genres represented. These trends revealed a shaping of a Latinx canon that includes award-winning Latinx author and lesser known Latinx authors.

More than a quarter of all U.S. students in grades Kâ12 are Latinx. Examining what Latinx texts are included in classroom literature anthologies is essential to ensuring cultural representativeness of the increasing Latinx student population, especially in states such as Texas and California, whose Hispanic student population is more than 40 percent. These states also represent the largest consumers of educational materials and, therefore, greatly influence what content is included in literature anthologies sold throughout the United States.
