Many have predicted that digital means of communication may replace established interaction patterns. This paper shows that there is no such replacement, instead the integration of IT nurtures interactions and leads to synergy effects: 1+1 = 3

Why is it important?
Researchers and practitioners must understand that integration of information technologies in business is complex and this article provides some tools for understanding. The profitability of IT lies in the ability to use it when needed and let it be part of operation in a purposeful manner. This implies that a tool useful in a business situation at one company not necessarily is useful at another.
Perspectives
I think there is a lot of interesting research about integration of IT in business, but much is focussed on showing that integration of IT can increase profit. We must get under the surface and research all its antecedents.
