What is it about?

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection has been rated 10th among the killer diseases. Occult HBV infection goes undetected with the widely used HBsAg screening in most hospital thereby encouraging progression into complications such as liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. This work therefore aimed at evaluating HBV serological profiles among the population of apparently healthy hospital attendees and their proportion of susceptibility to HBV infection.

Why is it important?

For proper and adequate management of those infected with HBV infection, a good knowledge of the HBV serological pattern is important. Hence, this study focused on providing that knowledge by describing the HBV infection serological markers and their variety of patterns.

Perspectives

You will find the paper very useful for interpreting different (typical and atypical) patterns of HBV serological markers (HBsAg, anti-HBs, HBeAg, anti-HBe and anti-HBc).
