What is it about?

Levels of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) both in winter and summer in sediments from the Bangladesh coastal were determined by analyzing all the 209 PCB congeners using GC-MS/MS. The contamination levels were higher near the industrialized area (Chittagong) than the other areas and no significant difference between season were observed.

Why is it important?

This study revealed for the first time the comprehensive contamination levels of PCBs in Bangladesh coastal area which were comparable or higher than some of the coastal areas of Asia.

Perspectives

We hope our congener specific analysis will contribute to the further source identification of PCBs in this area.
