This article argues that polyamory is an identity that serves a function for bisexual women - namely, to make bisexuality visible to others in ways that monogamy cannot.

Increasingly, polyamory is being framed as a type of sexual orientation--one focused on partner number rather than sex or gender. However, this approach does not address the fluidity between polyamory and monogamy reported by the women in this study.
