What is it about?

The coast of Malaga is one of the most important destinations in Spain. However, the importance of inland tourism in the region is growing significantly. The region may be tempted to emulate the actions of the coast and thereby lose what makes it unique. For this reason, this paper tries to decompose and measure the contribution of different public and private agents in the quality of the final tourist experience in the inland of Malaga.

Why is it important?

The method of analysis of the final satisfaction with the destination, measured as the sum of the contribution of the different agents, is postulated as a relatively inexpensive method to analyse and establish measures to improve quality within a tourist destination while allowing to measure the responsibilities of each agent in said final quality perceived by the tourist. Our findings show that the main responsible for the final tourist satisfaction with the destination are tourist companies, being the most influential agents the leisure firms and restaurants. They have ability to shape the patterns of uniqueness of destinations, followed by the related tourism resources management agents.

Perspectives

We believe that this paper can encourage destination managers to get involved in the implementation of continuous quality improvement and establish collaborative networks between the different agents interested in the development of a tourist destination.
