What is it about?

Roy Bhaskar wanted his research to make a positive difference in the world and he developed critical realism out of frustration with positivism, postmodernism and interpretivism, since these methologies discourage ameliorative action, not least by denying that facts can lead to values. This call for papers therefore asks academics to continue with the task set by Bhaskar of how we can improve the world. Specifically, it asks how we can develop normative commitments that are beneficial to our wellbeing.

Why is it important?

Answering the question of how we can make a difference in the world is possibly a matter of survival, given the current context of climate change and environmental degradation.

Perspectives

I feel that this is the direction that Roy Bhaskar would have wanted critical realism to take.
