Why is it important?

The self-management of lifelong learning is a very challenging process, as well as is the national development of core CPD mandatory schemes. Proposing models and methods to systematically organize it and to accordingly develop targeted CPD interventions is essential. This proposed 3D method assumes an holistic assessment of CPD needs and priorities at a particular local setting of practice and for serving an individual practitioner's targeted needs. It is assumed to cover all gaps in knowledge, skills and attitudes that lead to better patients' outcomes, satisfying also the HCWs and their career aspirations. It can be indirectly claimed that it is also a cost-saving approach for a comprehensive use of budgets available for CPD.

Perspectives

This method consists part of a set of proposals for the improvement of national CPD systems that I have conceptualized and proposed (i.e. the 3 Steps approach, the 3D approach, the LogicSix formula etc). Prior PhD research has highlighted, among other, the importance for the establishment of national mechanisms defining needs and priorities before attempting any reforms. At the current post-doc research level, various models and methods for relevant improvements are being conceptualized. The acquired knowledge has been streamlined through working groups to global deliverables i.e .Global WONCA standards, WHO UHC framework, Statements, Curriculums etc. More research in implementation and change management is being desgned.
