What is it about?

This is a conceptualized method on how to one proceed when aiming to advance the national CPD system. The rational is based on the principles of evidence-based policy making, including "best practices" examples, end-users knowledges, skills and capabilities and current situational analysis. It is a unique simple method leading to the identification of priorities and areas warranting improvements.

Why is it important?

The EU Joint Action in 2013 called the member-states to submit information regarding characteristics of their CPD systems. Diversity was realized and collaboration for sharing experiences was encouraged. This proposed method conceptualized in 2008 corresponds indeed to the idea of collaboration, adoption and adaptation of "best practices". It was implemented in 2010 to 2014 in a comparison of the Greek system against the British one and leading to 15 domains, where change and improvements in Greece were proposed for. Capacity and capability in the HCWs is a high priority in the EU public health agenda.

Perspectives

This is my own individual concept, and visits to the UK to locally study their CPD system reform (during the period 2007-2013) were self-funded, as well as the survey conducted to Greek physicians to inform the concluded proposals for change.
