Lead farmers are used as a complement to traditional agricultural extension services in Malawi. The study assesses the role of lead farmers to disseminate knowledge about conservation technologies among smallholder farmers.

Conservation technologies are important to facilitate sustainable intensification of agriculture in Africa and efficient dissemination of knowledge about these technologies is important to stimulate adoption.

Perspectives

The study reveals that farmer-to-farmer extension systems can be an important complement to traditional extension system in relation to stimulating the adoption of new technologies.
