What is it about?
The invasion of the bed by screen devices is claimed to be accelerating the contemporary crisis of sleeplessness. This article brings insights from visual art to bear on the dominant sociological views of this crisis in order to suggest new understandings of the sleeping body.

Why is it important?
Sleep is understood primarily in utilitarian terms as serving the needs of the waking body. This article proposes that we must consider sleep afresh, through the lens of visual art, to give the sleeping body its own due.
