What is it about?

Concrete pavements are traditionally reinforced with steel network. The steel network is gradually suffered from corrosion, which makes the concrete pavement loses its function as a rigid pavement. In this study, the flexural behaviour of concrete pavement reinforced with geogrid was investigated. The tests were carried out by applying a static load at three different positions, which were: corner, edge and interior of the slab.

Why is it important?

Using geogrid as a flexural reinforcing material is important because the geogrid possesses an excellent resistance of corrosion and high tensile strength. These two advantages make the performance of concrete pavements reinforced with geogrid in the acceptable level for a long time.

Perspectives

Conducting this experimental work was a great pleasure as it can be opened a new direction in keeping the durability of concrete pavement for a long time. This study also leads to more test work under different loading situations.
