What is it about?

Chilean education policy constructs interculturality through competing policy agendas based on distinctive philosophical and epistemological approaches: IBE vs IC. It reveals their limited dialogue and why interculturality is neither a single nor politically neutral concept.

Why is it important?

It will be especially relevant to researchers and practitioners interested in higher education policy, Indigenous education, internationalization, equity, and decolonial perspectives.

Perspectives

From my perspective, it is essential to distinguish between intercultural bilingual education and intercultural competence because they arise from different philosophical and epistemological traditions and pursue different purposes. Internationalization must advance beyond a narrow skills-based understanding of interculturality and engage more meaningfully with other perspectives.
