What is it about?
The paper develops a theory of intra-group mobilization during large-scale inter-group violence using the case of the Sikh mobilization during the partition of India in 1947. The core argument is that belligerent faction of the group elite can ensure greater compliance from the group masses if they are able to establish a credible link between making sacrifices on behalf of the group and the defense of individual rights to land.
