What is it about?

I look at the different cultural festivals in which Morocco and Algeria perform Pan-Africanism. These festivals include the Essaouira Gnawa Music Festival, Tijāniyya gatherings and other festival with Pan-Africanist dimensions.

Why is it important?

It sheds new light on the changes that Morocco and Algeria brought to Pan-Africanism, especially in its Islamizing aspect.

Perspectives

This article will illuminate how Pan-Africanism is reincarnated through Islam and religious practices that would have been considered reactionary in the past.
