This article uses the new phenomenon of rating and recommendation sites for healthcare - where patients rate and comment on physicians, institutions and medications - to reflect on post-panoptic theories of surveillance practice.

Why is it important?

The article is a translational piece that shows what different academic fields can learn from one another. It examines healthcare as a special case in relation to other theories of online post-panoptic surveillance, which have mostly been developed in relation to leisure activities and practices. It also shows what health scientists can learn from theories developed in different academic fields.
