Socioeconomic homogeneity of the rural communities favor social mobilization for culture-based fisheries (CBF), which require active community participation. The decision making process of CBF development is considerably facilitated by these socioeconomic characteristics of the rural communities.

Culture-based fisheries development is increasingly recognized as a means of ensuring food security in rural communities. This is also an underutilized opportunity in aquaculture, which has a great potential for increasing food fish production.

Perspectives

As many Asian countries adopt culture-based fisheries in the small water bodies, the finding of this paper are of regional importance.
